Egg Photo Challenge #5

This was the first photo I took and it has no lighting added, the lighting is all natural. I took this photo near the fine arts building on some stairs. I took it from a neutral angle, just slightly above the egg. The ISO is 100, The aperture is f/3.5, and the shutter speed is 1/40

This photo was taken with the lighting facing directly above the egg. The shadow created added some depth, and the picture was taken from the same angle as the first picture. ISO is 100, Aperture is f/4.0, and the shutter speed is 1/40.

In this photo, the light is coming from the back of the egg, which creates a long shadow cast and adds more to just a basic egg. The photo was taken a little closer up to capture this photo. ISO is 160. aperture is f/4.0 and shutter speed is 1/30

In this photo, the light was coming from the side of the egg, which casted a weary, elongated shadow. The photo was taken from the same angle as before, and I was hoping to show some depth and detail.

I took this photo with no added light, but a new angle. I faced the camera on top of the egg to try something new, and was happy with the end look.

Art Makes You Smart
Mr. Susman'a freshman English class has a gallery walk to present their projects based on The Alchemist. They read this book for English over winter break and learned about the magic realism theme. Student McKenna Carpenter looks over another students art. McKenna comments "It's been a great expirience to be in Mr. Susmans class, I've learned a lot as a student."

Power to the Pyramid
This artwork was made by Gregory James. Gregory based this drawing off of   The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo. All of the freshman Pre-AP English classes made projects based off this book. The artist Gregory comments "This project was fun because I was able to create whatever I wanted to, there were no boundaries."

An Artistic Overview
Students judge other projects in the class. Mr. Susman's first period Pre-AP English class walks around and rates other artwork based on The Alchemist. the students enjoy donuts and lemonade as they have a gallery walk. One of Mr. Susman's students Eric Stanfield adds, "I really liked getting too the food because it's not something you would usually get to do in English." The gallery walk was held on Friday, January 15th.

An Intro to Yearbooks

1. What is the title of your book?
A/part
2. What school is it from and where is that school located?
Rouse Highschool in Leander Texas.
3. What "thematic elements" do you see in your book? This means what elements are evident from beginning to end of the book. What visual or textual elements recur throughout the book from beginning to end?
There are pictures at the bottom of the page that show students in a team, club, or class. They are "apart" of these things. Also the season is mentioned at the top of each page.
4. How many sections are in your book? This could be tough to figure out, but do your best.
There are 37 sections in this yearbook.
5. What is your favorite "spread"? A spread is two facing pages about the same topic.
My favorite spread was one about pep rallies, the page had pictures of cheerleaders featured across both pages, and included quotes from sudents talking about their experience at the pep rallies during the football season.
6. When you looked at the spread, what was the first thing that caught your eye?
The title of the spread, "A Rally Good Time" popped out to me at first.
7. What are three things that you like about this spread?
I like the pictures of students enjoying themselves at the pep rally, I like the feature story, and I loved the part that discussed  what students could do during the pep rally instead of going to the event itself.
8. What is one thing you would change about it to make it better?
I would make sure the stories were more organized, because it looks slightly cluttered on the page, but everything else looks great.
9. Is there an Index in your book?
Yes, there is an Index in the book.l
10. Are there photos of groups of people, like clubs and organizations?

2015 Favorites

In this photo, a Beluga Whale sprays water at the visitors of the Sea Water Aquarium in Tokyo. I love this photo, it is taken at the exact right moment, and the smiles captured show the true joy of this moment. Photo taken by Toshifumi Kitamura, featured on The Boston Globe.
In the above photo Queen Elizabeth II thanks her supporters. I liked this photo because this year The Queen was named the longest reigning monarch in Britain, which is very cool to me.Photo was taken by Andrew Milligan and I found it on BBC News.
In this photo FIFA president Sepp Blatter looks on as fake money gets poured on him. This was one of my favorites because the money getting poured on him is in focus and his face is a bit blurry, which adds a cool contrast. I like the concept of fake money being spilled onto him and think this photo relates to this year, because it reminds me of all the politics that have been going on during the year as we select a new president. Photo was taken by Fabrice Coffrini and was featured on the Boston Globe.

Best Song of 2015: In my opinion, the best song of 2015 was Different Colors by Walk the Moon. The album came out last year and got popular right away. I saw the band live in May, which was one of my favorite memories of the year also. The song is really versatile and anybody can like it, all ages can dance together during this song.  Photo taken by Gracie Smith

Best Movie: The best movie of 2015 in my opinion was Inside Out. The movie had some iconic voices (Amy Poehler, Mindy Kahling). It was such a family friendly movie that people of all ages could enjoy. The humor was great, and the story line was a roller coaster of emotions, the movie was just over all a feel-good, cute family film. This movie did incredibly well in the box office, and all the reviews said only good things. This is a photo of the lighting director, and the photo was sourced from Pixar.

News Story: The biggest news story of 2015 was the Paris terror attack. The shooting brought so much attention to Paris, and there was so much outbreak all over the world, people joining together in order to support Paris. The attack not only helped bring people together, but it brought new light to the fact that our world is not perfect yet and there is still a lot we have to do in order to improve the safety of it.  Person of the Year: The person of the year was Drake. He was in the press so much this year, from dating Serena Williams, to headlining multiple music festivals, he was all over. Drake was the talk of the town, social media rotated around him during the year. He also came out with a head-banging new album. Although he didn't donate to charity, he still topped more than the charts this year. Drake could not be stopped in 2015. Photo taken by Fei Skorda.

Entertainment Story of the Year: Bruce Jenner made the leap of becoming a women this year. This story hit so many people, because teens knew Bruce from the show he is on, and adults new him from the tennis days. Bruce Jenner, now Caitlyn Jenner, finally found her place in the world this year. Not everybody can agree with the decision she made, but it affected so many people, because it helped them make a decision, and really brought a whole new light to transgender's in our community.  Photo taken from Vanity Fair.

My holiday:
1)  During the holiday, I went to Enchanted Rock with my dad and brother. We hiked to the top of the rock and it was so cold so we had to go right back down. The view was still very pretty and we got to stop in marble falls after the hike for some hot cocoa. It was a fun day with the family.
2) My resolutions are too stop spending so much time on screens and live more in the moment, I don't want to depend on my phone in 2016.
3) I'm really looking forward to traveling in 2016 because I'm finally going back to Europe after ten years. I am looking forward to making many new memories during the year.
