Planning your magazine cover

1. My magazine is going to food. I'm going to focus on recipes and meal ideas, also on local and homegrown restaurants around the Austin area.

2. My target reader will be any gender, any age. Everybody likes food! I would typically want to focus on 20-30 year olds who are looking for fast, easy, and yummy recipes. I want to make a magazine that everybody could enjoy.

3. The title of my magazine is Food Forward. I would call it that because my magazine is based around urban and local food, which is a new and innovative, so the title really is perfect for my magazine.

4. I want my magazine to have a light and appealing personality. I want it have a fun feel, but it would sometimes touch on the more serious side of food production. I will use elements like using the light to really brighten the mood. I would also use simple photos to bring the readers in. I would not use a face but a picture of some pretty food. I want to make a light reading and i want to portray this on the cover to pull more readers in.

5. I want to make my cover similar to the Bon Apetit magazine cover. I think this would be a great cover to use as an idea because the magazine has a similar idea. I would keep the main picture of food, but I might use multiple pictures instead of one large picture.

6. An image-based cover would best fit my magazine. Image-based would be a good choice because a pretty picture of food would really draw readers into the magazine, and the other types of covers would not fit the idea of my magazines personality as well.

7.  My first cover story will be about food perfect for a summer pool party. I will feature very bright and fun pictures of cupcakes, fruit and juice. To complete this I will need to take a few fun photos of food. I can take pictures around my pool and include bright summer colors.
